Monthly Archives: December 2005

And the list-making continues

Okay, I’ve been thinking some more, truly annoying, but there it is. I’ve decided that 2006 will be the year of 12′s. My lists will all try to contain 12 of something, one for each month. Bite size pieces, if you will.

Here is the start of my book list for 2006:

  1. I Lucifer, the Other Side of the Story – Glen Duncan
  2. Inkheart – Cornelia Funke
  3. Eragon – Christopher Paolini
  4. Herding Cats – Trent Lott
  5. Selfish Gene – Richard Dawkins
  6. Things as They Are – Guy Vanderhaeghe
  7. One for the Road – Tony Horwitz
  8. The DaVinci Code – Dan Brown (I just need to know what all the brewhaha is about!)
  9. Fionavar Tapestry – Guy Gavriel Kay (This is technically a trilogy but I like to reread it every couple of years. Love it)
  10. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou (I’m going to hear her speak in May!)

Okay, that’s my start. Two more to go.

Some other 12′s:

  • 12 more credits (four courses) towards the degree. I’m thinking two Philosophy courses and two sociology courses.
  • The previously noted sock a month.
  • The also previously noted two pounds a month.

So, there you have it. A year. All laid out and fresh, like clean sheets. I love that feeling, the sheets and the fresh year!

Things to do:

Okay, I was reading Crazy Aunt Purl and remembered how much I used to love making lists. And, how much more I got done when I did make said lists. So in that spirit I’ve started making some lists.

1. I have signed up for the Vancouver Sun Run. Yikes. 10k run? I think the last time I ran 10k I was actually in grade 10. Although, I’m pretty sure we just buggered off to Leah Christiansen’s house and watched soap operas all afternoon instead of running. Why yes, I have always been this lazy!

2. I have started a list (see, one list just breeds another one!) of books that I want to read for 2006. I even own all of them, I just haven’t gotten them read yet!

3. I will knit my Kilim coat. This was and is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever bought, It might actually be nice to wear the darn thing!

4. I will not watch more than two hours of tv per night. Less on nights when there is only crap on. Just because it’s on doesn’t mean I have to be actively involved with it. I will listen to my books on my ipod and knit or, gasp, actually leave the room and go to a room with no tv! Can you imagine!

5. Start whittling down that sock yarn stash. Let’s say, a sock a month. That seems more than doable. Then I’ll have six pairs of socks at year end.

6. If I do decide to knit for Christmas I promise I will not make that decision three weeks before Christmas.

7. Eat more vegetables.

8. Lose 2 pounds a month. More if possible, but let’s not be crazy and set ourselves up for failure here! Besides, getting ready for that damn Sun Run should definitely help with this little item.

Okay, that’s enough for now! I don’t want to freak myself out. I’m going to go read for 1/2 an hour before work starts. Y’all have a good day, and make a list.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got for now but there’s time. Besides, I like to think of this as a work in progress!

I’m going to do some reading now before I start work!

Working? Not much really…

Exhibit A: little chocolate boozie bottles.

Exhibit B: Staff eager for the holidays to begin!

Exhibit C: Yep, shots at work. But it’s okay,
’cause their chocolates! Right?!?!?!?!!?

Secret Pal 7

I just signed up! Very excited! It’s my first Secret Pal exchange. I think that whole Sockapaltwoza thing got me psyched!

Okay, okay, I’m going to go finish dad’s fingerless glove now. Hopefully, pici tomorrow!

There isn’t enough time!

Ta Da! A finished hat for dad. I got the pattern over here. The pattern was brilliant and I’m really happy with how the hat turned out. I used Patons Classic Merino. I’m making a matching set of fingerless mittens (first one is cast on).

I can’t believe it’s only a week until Christmas. And, I’m a little distressed that I still manage to be surprised every year by how fast it arrives. It’s not like they change the date every year or something! Sheesh.

I’m also making a nice table mat/doily for mom and I did three scarves for friends. Not bad. I really didn’t want to be freaking out with stress the night before Christmas.

Okay, I’m off to do laundry and such and hopefully finish the first mitt tonight.

Tonight’s the night…

Okay, so…..this:

is going in these:

And then, it’s going in Karen, DeeAnn, and I. Wish us luck!
