Gold Baby!

All I can say is ta da! Oh, and I’ve learned just how much I can knit in 2 weeks so now I have no excuse for the amount of UFO’s in the knitting basket. :)

Almost over the finish line

Whew, I’m almost there. It is off the needles and blocking. Here it is in it’s natural, lumpy, fresh from the Euculan wash state:

And here it is in the more attractive and blocked state:

Note the advanced level of photography here as I balance on the corner of the bed to get the shot! That’s gotta be good for some extra points from the judges. :)

I still have to weave in the ends and crochet a finish along the top edge. Overall I would say I am pleased with the result. I do wish I had used a larger needle to get a more open pattern but that’s okay. We’ll file that under lessons learned for next time.

Okay. I gotta go and get some stuff done. I have a bunch of people coming over tonight for craft night and I think I should prolly vacuum up at least one geological age of dog hair from the floors! Okay, it’s not that bad but man, those animals can shed a whole dog in a day, I swear.

Oh My

I got the job. Wow.

Sweet!

I got my jersey!

I am over the moon with excitement, I simply cannot express how happy this little package made me. Here I am, post-work, enjoying a little cider libation. Fabulous I tell you, fabulous! Huge thank you’s going out to Amy and Kellie and everyone who had a hand in making our Canadian Team so special. It’s really a wonderful feeling to be a member of such a large group of people who are all as crazy and obsessed as you are!

In other non-knitting news, it would appear I am facing a decision regarding my future employment. Got a call last week asking me to come in for an interview at a local hospital for a senior administrative support position. Went for interview next day. Was told it was between me and one other person and the successful candidate would be brought in for in interview with the director. (yikes). They called my references that afternoon. The called me the next morning and asked me back to meet with said director tomorrow at 11:30. I’m sharting I tell you! And, of course I’m so flipping Canadian that I couldn’t bring myself to be forward and ask, “Does that mean that I’m the chosen one?” ‘Cause heaven forfend that a good Canadian girl speaks up and asks something!

Sometimes I’m just a little too docile, this was one of those times.

Okay. I’m off to cook some dinner and knit on my shawl. Oh! And, “The Office” is on tonight. So funny. I have a deep need in me to have Jim and Pam be together, yes, I know it fiction. DH tells me that every week. :)

Okay, off to cook, eat, and knit. In that order.

OH! But wait! Did y’all see how well Canada did at the Olympics today? FOUR medals. I could just plotz. So proud.

Bronze!

I am so loving these Olympics! Booya! Another medal today, a huge congratulations going out to Cindy Klassen for her bronze in 3000m speed skating.

On the knitting front over there you can see the shawl as she stands after row 74. I gotta say, blocking does a lot for knitted items ’cause I think she looks like the dogs breakfast right now!

Okay, back to the tv and the knitting. Enjoy!

Gold!

Whoot Whoot! Canada’s first medal and it’s a Gold. Congratulations to Jennifer Heil of Spruce Grove, Alberta!

Okay, back to the shawl. I can’t stop grinning. :)

This one is for Talulah

Bad picis of a swatch! I can’t wait for spring so you can have natural light after 4:00 pm!

Oh so pretty

Look what I got in the mail today:

Sweet! Want to get some too? Have a look here.

My head hurts

Philosophy is sort of like all those cool thoughts you had when you were a teenager and were high, except you’re not high, and those thoughts make your brain feel like it’s turned inside out!

Here is an example, and I think this might be the one I write my paper on this semester, we’ll see.

I touch a hot surface and burn my hand. I am now intimately acquainted with the pain of that sensation. I feel the pain, I see the redness and blistering of the skin, I am fully acquainted with the sensation of it.

With me so far? Great.

A doctor, say….a burns specialist, is also acquainted with what a hot surface can do to a hand. Even without ever actually burning themself they are fully acquainted with the physical issues of the burn. They know what is happening to the tissue when it is burned, what sort of signals the nerves are sending to the brain to explain the pain, what is occurring to cause the blistering, etc, etc. Their knowledge is a priori, or, knowledge before experience.

Okay, still with me? Good, now it gets uncomfortable. Both of these individuals are acquainted with burns, but which is more truly acquainted? Does “knowing” how something feels equate to the sames level of knowledge as actually feeling something? And if not, are most humans only living a tiny fraction of what is possible because there is no way that they can “know” everything? One could argue this both ways. The person burned obviously knows more about the sensations of it, they have actually felt it. But, the doctor has more knowledge of what is actually happening to cause these sensations. Which is more valid? More real?

Okay, I’m gonna go now. I’m gonna go to work and do some nice easy accounting stuff. Y’all have a nice day.
