These little guys will be winging their way to Florida tomorrow along with a ball of Regia Cotton Surf Colour and some other little yummy somethings. Love the yummy little somethings.
I had a final interview for one job that I’m really liking the looks of and then I get my final interview on Tuesday for the other job I’m totally jonesing for. Is that creepy? To be jonesing for a job? Hmmmm, I gotta learn to cut loose and relax a bit.
I cast on a bunch ‘o stitches in the Kauni last night on a 16 inch circular. For this, I will do a gauge swatch. I’m notorious for never bothering but this strikes me as a project that really wants a gauge swatch.
As an aside, coming home from the interview on Skytrain today (yes, we really did name it that. There was a contest and everything) I say a man in nothing but his Y fronts walking along the sidewalk with a Slurpee. My first thought…well…where does he keep his money for Slurpees if he’s only in his underwear? Hmmmm. Happy Tuesday everyone.
My sockapalooza socks that is. ;) Here they are drying on my incredibly hitech sock blockers:
Overall I’m really pleased with them. I do wish they were more identical and less fraternal but there just isn’t much I can do about handpainted yarn now is there! The colours in the top photo are truer, at least on my monitor. Anyone else done their Socakapaloozas?
Bring on the Kauni! Whoot whoot!
oh yes I am. To that end, hey Leah! The Kauni came from Astrid’s Dutch Obsessions. She was fantastic and helpful and the shipping was about $20.00. With that rate of shipping though, you could go all the way up to 1800 grams which is A LOT of yarn! My Kauni was only 580 grams so technically I could have ordered enough for 3 sweaters and maybe a pair of socks. Not that I would do that of course. Who am I kidding, of course I would.
Who will be next to succumb to the siren call of this yarn?
I bought 2 skeins of Kauni, each one is 290 grams. Yes, that is a lot. I’m a biggish girl and I wanted enough left over for a hat and maybe some mitts. What I failed to realized is just how big two skeins of 290 grams each would be in ball/cake format. Frickin’ huge! My swift wouldn’t support them, I had to dig out the old PVC piping on that DH made for me a few years ago. The ballwinder, man I hope I didn’t permanently do it a damage. Thesecond skein I had a break in it so it ended up being two cakes. The skein was complete, I managed to put a break in it when the PVC swift suddenly locked up solid.
It sure is pretty though.
That’s the term I used in interviews on Monday and yesterday to explain my current work situation. Nice right? Today is officially my third day of not being employed. My contract ended on Friday. Monday was spent in testing and interviews for two federal positions and yesterday was spent in interviews for a city and a health authority position. What have I learned? Having a job is much easier than interviewing for one. That whole being “on” and “sparkly” thing is exhausting. I’m so happy to have today off though, then back to the interview grind tomorrow!
I did start reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night. I’m to page 100 or so. I’ve been putting off starting it because I didn’t really want the series to end but that’s not very logical is it? If I don’t read it pretty soon I’m going to stumble onto a spoiler or something and ruin it for myself. So, I’m biting the bullet and reading it and letting the series end.
Plans for the day? Well, the weather finally broke and the humidity and constant dripping rain has broken and today is gorgeous and sunny. After I clean the bird cages I’m heading out to the back yard with my knitting and my ipod. I downloaded Douglas Adams’, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and I’m going to finish my Sockapalooza sock today. That way, I can skein up my Kauni yarn tonight and maybe play with some gauge swatches. Yummers!
Oh, and mom, I called you yesterday to invite you to lunch today but there was no answer and you didn’t have your answering machine on! Would you like to go to lunch on Friday instead?
I love Ikea.
Look Vanessa, new shot glasses! How exciting is that? And lingonberry concentrate. You know what that means right? Lingonberry martinis! Huzzah.
The rest of the day looked a lot like this:
Kauni is not seen often seen in the wild, which is why this was such a lucky incident. We spotted it from afar, and began to work our way closer in hopes of learning more about his rare and beautiful creature.
We believe that it was drawn out of hiding for a little sunbathing. Here is our first glance:
We slowly work our way closer. Carefully trying not to alarm it:
The warmth of the sun must have caused it to doze off. This last closeup shot is inprecedented:
Okay, that’s enough Wild Kingdom for the day. :) I’ve made a deal with myself, this is as much as I’m allowed to touch it until the Sockapalooza socks are finished. I’m not even going to put it on the swift and wind it up until those socks are washed and blocking. I plan on finishing them this weekend, there is no way I can keep my hands off this yarn for any longer than that. But hey, want to get some Kauni for yourself? Astrid was fabulous to work with and the shipping was amazingly fast. I think you will have to wait until the end of July for some colours as they are on back order.
In other news, I had 3 interviews and testing sessions last week for various jobs and on Friday I got calls from 4 more for next week. One of them is with the RCMP civilian staff. Dress uniforms! Swoon. Don’t even get me started about the musical ride. Uniforms and horses? I’m almost unconscious here.
I’m getting a feeling that I will have to make a job choice in the next week or two. That’s going to be the hard part.
Yeah, that totally explains why it was 110 degrees in my house yesterday. In southern British Columbia. It’s a temperate rain forest here, or at least it’s supposed to be. Perhaps not anymore?!?!!?!?!? Phpppt. Now I’m going to have to move to Alaska, or the Arctic Circle or something. Ooooooo! Maybe Iceland. They have some very nice yarn there.
Anyway, the only thing fit to knit on in this heat, socks:
I’m liking it. I’m also knitting on washcloths for a project that Rabbitch has on the go. Check it out.
Okay, tomorrow’s Friday. I have to more interviews in the afternoon and the week if finally over. Then it’s off to Boston Pizza for dinner with some co-workers and maybe out to Richmond for the night market. That’s if the drinks don’t get out of hand after dinner! Keep cool people.
over at Kat’s blog. She mentioned this other blog about a woman who is working on doing something every day. Something she hasn’t done before, or is afraid or, or is curious of, or whatever. There was one entry about her having bought a bottle of champagne, Dom to be exact. Just because. She didn’t open it until day 23, but that’s not really the point.
That got me thinking about this:
Hubby bought that for me as a wedding present. I had always wanted a bottle of champagne like they have in the movies, with the flowers painted all over it. He trekked all over the place to find that. This was back in the day when you couldn’t use the internet to find things. The internet was for newsgroups, ICQ, and naked people. So he finds this beautiful bottle of champagne, gives it to me as a wedding present and we promptly put it back in the bag and tuck it away in the cubboard. That was ELEVEN years ago. Then, this past Christmas, I was in the liquor store and I saw this:
How pretty is that? Gorgeous. I bought it. Why? We haven’t drank the first one right? Maybe I was thinking they would breed and we’d have little bottle of sparkling water?
So anyway, long story short, (not really eh?) we finally did this last night:
You’ll note we opened and drank the new one, not the eleven year old one. Turns out it’s worth a small bucket of money now and we just can’t bring ourselves to open it. Typical. Any excuse I tell you. It tasted like fall smells, if that makes any sense. You could almost smell the leaves turning colour and ripe apples on trees and that cold dewy morning air when you walk to school for the first time after labour day. It was nice. But it makes me burp. All this little bubbles I guess.
In other news, I’ve been working on this:
The Elann Uros is really nice. Very soft and I don’t know, tangible???? to work with. I like it a lot. Have a great day kids. I’m gonna finish my laundry and work on my sockpal socks.
