What I got

Okay, the sun came out today so I got some nice shots of my latest stash acquisitions.  Apparently I have a small Silk Garden addiction in the making.  ;)

This is some of what I got at Fibre Fest in Gibsons week before last:

500 grams of Hummingbird Fibre Arts 83% organic Romney and 17% Tussah silk.  I particularly like this orange/copper colour:

I bought A LOT from Hummingbird Fibre Arts and from their fibre supplier, Qualicum Bay Fibre Works.  Gorgeous stuff.  Most of it is called IGOR – island grown organic Romney and then there are all the ways they blend IGOR.  I was really taken with the silk blends.  They also do fibre processing so if you have a fleece that wants washing and preparing, their stuff was beautifully prepared.  You can go here and read and interview with the owner, Anna Runnings.  She was so nice!  There is a LOT more spinning fibre than this but this one is the jewel in the crown.  The other spinning fibres I bought were all very muted and natural colours and don’t really sparkle like this little lovely does.

Of course I didn’t only buy spinning fibre.  Here is the evidence of my other purchases:

Mostly sock yarn, three skeins of it Malibrigo!  I also got some really nice sock yarn from Unwind Yarns.  Lovely colours!  Of course I got a skein of Kureyon sock yarn, had to try that out.  Then, there were the two balls of Kauni.  One was to replace the one that Stella killed earlier this year and the other one…well…it was just pretty. And blue.  And apparently, that’s all it took for me that day.

Okay, now we come to yesterdays yarn sale extravaganza.

Yep, that surely is a lot of Silk Garden.  Huh, three different weights and seven different colours.  I’m such a junkie!  In addition to that I also got two lovely skein of Malabrigo silk and another skein of Indigo Moon sock.  That stuff is amazing!

Okay, that’s about it.  Thankfully it was all on sale and I spent a fair bit less than I would have on a non-sale day.  :)   I’m just going to keep saying that over and over to myself.

Now, I’m going to go read the first chapter of my criminology text.  Class starts on Tuesday and I want to be ahead of the game, if only a little bit.  Psychological Explanations of Criminal and Deviant Behaviours.  Sounds pretty light hearted, don’t you think?  ;)   Have a good Labour Day  tomorrow everyone!

The lengths we will go to

Three words for you – yarn store sale.  Mmmm hmmmm.  Oh yeah!  These are the lengths that we went to:

  • Arrive one hour early to assure good spot in line – check
  • Have printed out list of items on sale in store for maximum shopping impact (thank you MrsQuimby) – check
  • Fill shopping basket to capacity – check
  • Wait 45 minutes in check out line while still adding to said shopping basket – check
  • Wait outside 45 minutes for friend who hit checkout much later than you – check
  • Hit coffee shop for one hour to revel in yours and others purchases immediately after – check
  • Have lunch and talk each other out of going back to said yarn store and getting “just one more thing” – check

I gotta say, it was fabulous and all that I thought it would be.  I needed a cigarette after I was done my shopping.  Oh, and our ‘good spot in line’?  Yeah, we were first in line thank you very much:

Here we are in all our glory with our coffees in hand and just waiting for the store to open.  You can find these usual suspects at the following links via Ravelry:  Plae, yarnpiggy, MrsQuimby, odelia.  The chick on the left is a mannequin in a very pretty sweater.  No yarn shopper literally lost their head in this sale.  :)

Oh!  The store also gets cupcakes for all the shoppers.  Lots of cupcakes, on a cupcake tree.  See:

How cute is that?  Added bonus, they were very tasty.  Here is my obligatory shot of the madding crowd:

What you can’t see is the gang of women in the very back of the store in the mosh pit that was the Koigu Kersti @ 50% off corner.  Good times, good times.  Now, I’m exhausted and I’m going to go knit with some Silk Garden.  I’m so weak!

Home is where

I bring all the cool stuff I bought at the Gibsons Landing Fibre Arts Festival! No picis yet.  The weather is so rainy and dark that I can’t get good colours.  I totally did not finish my Ravelympics2008 sweater.  I’m bummed but okay with that.  Here’s me and the unfunished sweater in front of Molly’s Reach:

Seriously!  How cool is that?  For you complete Beachcombers geeks, here’s the Persephone:

The festival was amazing.  I took classes with Kim McKenna and Michelle Boyd and learned so much that I’m not sure why my head hasn’t exploded yet.  Bought tonnes of sock yarn and spinning fibre, duh!

Now, I’m wicked tired so it’s laundry and knitting for the day for me.  Oh, and I’m going to make some homemade chicken soup and biscuits for dinner.  I swear, I can smell fall in the air.  So strange.

Can’t blog…

Knitting like a mad woman.  Not only am I in the Ravelympics2008, I also somehow managed to become the team captain for Team Canada.  Anyway, here is the shot of my cast on morning at something like 5:00 am with the opening ceremonies streaming on the computer.  How cool were those opening ceremonies?

I gotta say though, this whole working for a living, totally getting in the way of my Ravelympic dreams of gold!
